About the workshop
In July of 2013 My wife Angela and I hosted a birchbark canoe building workshop at our home in Wellington, Maine. A group of seven participants built a 16-foot Wabanaki-style canoe in my shop. When the canoe was finished, except for the etching, we held a drawing, and the winner got the canoe for the cost of the materials and their preparation. When we went to Kingsbury Pond to launch the canoe, a heron was there; thus was the canoe named.
