About the WoodenBoat workshops
Each of six summers from 1996-2001 I led a one-week birchbark canoe building class at the beautiful
Woodenboat School in Brooklin, Maine. In each class, a group of from 9 to 11 students worked together, with my direction, to build a 14-foot Wabanaki style birchbark canoe. The canoe went to one of the students, selected by drawing, who then paid for the materials. All photos are © Marian A. Kaminitz, National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, 1998.
