About the workshop
In 1825 a Maliseet canoe was brought from New Brunswick to Galway, Ireland, where it remained for nearly two hundred years (
link), before being returned to Canada for repairs in 2007. This turned out to be the oldest Maliseet canoe in existence, and in its honor a group of Maliseet people, hosted by Wayne Brooks and his family, built a full-size 21-foot reproduction of it with my help, at the Maliseet First Nation at St. Marys. This project, which took 4 weeks, was sponsored by the
Canada Council for the Arts.
